Hey Moms and Dads,
Have you noticed that our little ones love to take initiative? We often hear them say phrases like: “May I help?” “May I do this?” “Will you read a book to me?” “Will you play catch ball with me?” etc.

They have curious minds and love experimenting and implementing their ideas. As we all know, it is best to let them explore around with some guidance and parental observation. Come let us list down the areas where we can let them take the lead in day to day activities:

1. Deciding the games to play from the given options.
2. Deciding the breakfast, the family has on Sunday mornings.
3. Deciding what to wear on a picnic.
4. Deciding how to clean their rooms – whether they want to tidy their clothes first or put back the toys first – there is no golden rule and they should be allowed to choose these little things.
5. Deciding whether they want to read a fairytale or a science fiction.

These might sound too small and unimportant to adults, but it matters a lot to the little ones. Let us see how:

1. They feel valued.
2. They learn to take their own decisions.
3. They learn to take responsibility for their actions.
4. They learn to cooperate.
5. They become problem solvers.
6. They become independent.
7. They understand the importance of discipline as against chaos.
8. They want to learn more and more.
9. They obey rules happily.
10. They grow up to be better individuals.

These little acts of freedom and leadership lessons for our kids, will go a long way in making your bond with them stronger and also help build a stronger society that they will live in when they grow up.
