Hey Moms and Dads,

Relax and rewind a little towards your childhood. Do you remember as kids, lying down on your terrace or in the garden area of your house or on open fields during some school trip, we all have imagined flying up to the stars and riding on the clouds, haven’t we? You might have imagined yourself riding on a dinosaur or swimming in a river made of orange juice or talking to fairies and angels while sitting on a cloud that would lead you to the moon! Maybe some of you read about some scientists and wanted to make rockets, others read about musicians and wanted to compose the best music ever! Childhood is full of dreams and most of them stem from stories we heard and read. Come let us pass on the magic to our kids too. Here is a list of what happens when we read books to our kids:

  1. Their imagination improves.
  2. They get new and innovative ideas.
  3. Their vocabulary improves.
  4. Their general knowledge improves.
  5. They become better listeners.
  6. They learn new concepts in a fun way.
  7. They become habitual readers and always love to learn more.
  8. They develop empathy for the world and its diversity.
  9. Their natural curiosity is fed.
  10. They become better at communicating with others.

Now, if you are wondering how, you are to bring the magic of books into the life of your little ones. Here are some really handy tips that are easy to implement and would be fun and interesting to do:

  1. Make it a habit to gift them at least 1 book on every occasion throughout the year – birthdays, festivals, summer vacations, the celebration of any small or big achievement, etc.
  2. Make book reading a daily activity
  3. Encourage book discussions with the kids
  4. Encourage the kids to write their own stories
  5. Have regular book reading sessions with friends for your kids
  6. Take them to library and book café visits

So, the next time when your little one comes to you with a book in his/her hand and asks you to read out to them, you will see in their eyes a growing passion for a new world, and who knows they might make you proud by becoming one of those best writers, poets, doctors, scientists, astronauts or musicians that you spoke about. Books are living magic that can be passed from one to other and make all the impossible things possible! So, happy reading moms and dads!

Happy parenting!😊
